I am experimenting some problems while importing MP3 files after upgrading to the most recent version of the program. The program works very well importing two or three files and after that it stops or shows a very slow rate of speed, sometimes over one hour to import one MP3 file.
It’s there a setting I am overlooking or something I could do to speed up this process?
Thank you very much for your help.
Please see the pink panel above:
Please state which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity…
You can get the current 2.0.5 version of Audacity here: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows . Unfortunately many people say they have the latest version of Audacity when they don’t.
To import an MP3, Audacity decompresses the file to lossless PCM. This means if you have an hour long stereo MP3, Audacity by default needs 1.2 GB of disk space just to import the file. If you apply an edit to the entire track, it needs 2.4 GB of disk space, because Audacity lets you undo and redo edits.
So try freeing up some disk space. You can choose Edit > Preferences then Directories on the left to check the disk space on the drive you are using for your temporary folder, or change to a drive that has more space.
Please be aware that if you export the imported MP3 as another MP3, you will lose quality: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Lame_Installation#lossy . Try the programs listed in that link if you are just doing trims or volume edits on the MP3’s. This way you will not lose quality and won’t need a lot of disk space.
