Newbee question. WIN10, 2.4.2 Audacity. I am having troubles importing MP3 audio files from another location. I have several to combine and edit into one file. Here is an example of two:
https://earnestlycontendingforthefaith.com/King James Bible Audio/Ephesians 03.mp3
https://earnestlycontendingforthefaith.com/King James Bible Audio/Ephesians 04.mp3
I can load the MP3 files now; and then reduce the stereo to mono; and then align them end to end. But they are on multiple lines.
How can I combine them to one track, so I can add some more length (more files) and manage one long track instead of multiple tracks?
When you export they will be “mixed” and lined-up in sequence (mixed with silence if I understand what you’re doing).
P.S.
MP3 files don’t have chapters or tracks like a CD or DVD so if you combine Ephesians 3 and Ephesians 4 it won’t be easy to “find” the start of Ephesians 4. If you leave them as separate files your player software can play them in sequence based on the embedded track number or from the file name.
If you download an audiobook each chapter will be a separate file or there may be multiple files per chapter (sub chapters). Or, if you download an MP3 music album each song is a separate file.
Also, this isn’t a big deal with spoken word but we advise against “production” with MP3 (if you have a choice). Ideally, if you want an MP3 it should be compressed ONCE as the last step. As you may know MP3 is lossy compression. When you open the file in a Audacity (or any normal audio editor) it gets decompressed. If you re-export as MP3 you are going through another generation of lossy compression and the “damage” does accumulate. You might not notice any quality loss (especially with spoken voice) but it’s something you should be aware of, and you should try to minimize the number of times the audio is re-compressed.
There are special purpose MP3 editors (such as MP3directCut) that can do some limited editing (including joining & splitting files) without decompressing.
