I'm using LMNT AI for podcasting and need help removing constant static present throughout the generated speech, which Audacity's Noise Reduction isn't removing

Hi everyone,

I’m working on creating podcasts with LMNT AI, which is fantastic for easily changing the script and reducing recording time. However, I’m encountering a constant static issue in the generated speech. The static is present throughout the entire audio, with no variation in intensity or any periods of silence. It sounds like it’s baked into the audio itself. Unfortunately, LMNT AI doesn’t have any settings to adjust the audio quality, so I’m hoping to find a solution within Audacity.

I am a Mac OS user

I’ve already tried using Audacity’s Noise Reduction effect, but it doesn’t seem to have any impact, even after attempting to create a noise profile. Ideally, I’d prefer to stick with LMNT AI for now, as it suits my workflow, so I hope to find ways to improve the audio quality within Audacity.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Attempted Noise Profile: I tried to select a portion of the audio to create a noise profile, but the static is so consistent that it’s difficult to isolate.
  • Applied Noise Reduction: I selected the whole track and applied the Noise Reduction effect with the default settings.
  • I tried adjusting the sliders: I experimented with the “Noise reduction (dB)” and “Sensitivity” sliders, but they didn’t make any difference.

Is there a more effective noise-reduction technique in Audacity that I could try? Perhaps a combination of effects or a specific free plugin? Any suggestions for tackling this kind of pervasive static would be greatly appreciated!

With no idea how to solve this…

If none of the Noise Reduction processes seem to make any difference, then on a guess, I’d say Audacity is pushing your work through an app or process before it’s going out to your speakers or headphones. If that pathway doesn’t change, your noise won’t change, either.

Export a minute or so of the show to a WAV (Microsoft) file . Clean Shutdown the Machine (assuming Windows). Start the machine and launch Audacity. Open the file. Does it still do that?

Thanks for the suggestion! I’m using macOS, not Windows, but I can try a similar approach. I’ll export a portion of the audio as a WAV file, restart my Mac, and then open the exported file in Audacity to see if the static persists. Thanks!
