If this is free service why am I being charged $18.99 / month

This is supposed to be free. BEWARE! I have been charged $18.99 for the last 3 months. There is no phone number, no customer service, no support, no nothing. SCAM

Audacity is FREE and open source. (1)

This is the official download site [link now corrected] and they will not ask for a credit card (or any kind of pament).

If it’s a credit card and you are in the U.S. you should have no problem disputing unauthorized charges. If it’s a debit card you don’t have the same legal protections but at-least your bank should be able to block future charges even if they won’t cover your losses.

(1) Its not actually illegal for a 3rd-party to sell open-source software even if they are getting it free. But yes, you’ve been scammed by somebody!!!

@DVDdoug your link does not work.

The current version of Audacity is here: https://www.audacityteam.org/ (make sure to download the version “without Muse Hub” just below the yellow download button, if you do not need their cloud services).

For older versions use the link to Fosshub on this page: Audacity ® | Downloads

You may have accidentally signed up to audio.com. This is a strictly optional service which provides Audacity’s cloud saving and not required at all to use Audacity locally. You can contact support@audio.com to get to their customer service.
