How To Stretch A Selected Audio Section

Hello; I’m new to Audacity and I looked through the manual and other information, but can’t seem to find how to "Stretch a selected portion (about a 4 second block) into approximately a little bit longer block. Is there a way to do this, and if so… HOW???

Thank you for any and all help and even an example.

Apply the “Change Speed” or “Change Tempo” effect:

Thanks Steve, but I don’t want to change the tempo or speed, I just want to “stretch” that section of the blocked music. I’ve tried doing a copy/paste with the greatly enlarged view of that section so as to attempt to get the correct spot to place the section, but can never get it to fit in without sound like it’s underwater and “garbled”. Or did I miss something in the reading of the section you suggested I use? Like I said, I’m totally new to this world of audio editing. I’ve seen a recording studio producer do it and I thought I could do it with Audacity as well. Is this not true?

OH, I forgot to mention that I’m using Audacity version 2.1.3

I don’t understand what you mean by stretching the music without changing the tempo or speed.

You created a song and made a fluff in the middle. So you cut out the beat-matched phrase and now want to lay a fresh correction in the hole. Did I hit it?

What happens if you lay the correction in and just delete the gap where the two miss?

If the patch and the song just don’t match no matter what, you can create a new patch. You can do it in Overdubbing, where you listen to the original track while you sing the patch.

If the fluff was bad enough to affect the timing or beat of the song, then you need to recut the song from individual parts anyway, and a simple Change tool isn’t going to do it.

the song ends abruptly and not in a way that a track should… just cut off in the middle of a measure. So, what I want to do is take the part of the song before the cut-off and extend it more so I can fade it out at a point where it’ll sound natural and normal. Maybe I’m using the incorrect terminology, but it sorta expresses what I want to do. I just want to “Stretch” a section before the cut-off/cut-out and make the song longer in that area so I can end it as a song normally ends. Either on a single note/beat or just fade out.

I hope I’m making myself clear. Like I said, I’m totally new to this “Audacity” thing… but I love music and am anal about it sounding right when It’s a rough cut/piece. I thank all of you for your help and suggestions and ideas/thoughts. This is an awesome group of people on here. I’ll be checking back in later after my wife and I go to dinner. Again, thanks for any and all suggestions or tasks I’ve overlooked or just missed in reading through the manual.

The easiest solution would be to make the whole thing shorter by applying a nice “Studio Fade Out” for a few seconds before it gets to the abrupt end.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I totally appreciate this site and forum. I’ve got it now and found out some tricks to make it happen. You all are great! Again, Thank You.
