How To Split Into Separate Tracks

I have an audio file that is 3hrs long. I want to split this into separate tracks of 15 minute duration.

I worked out how to split the file into tracks, but when I export the file as an MP3, it continues to act as a single track.

How do I go about achieving this so that I have the 3hr track but can forward or rewind in 15 minute increments?

Thanks for your help.

Have you tried Export Multiple?

I am not sure you can have an index or flags or markers within an MP3 file. Do you have a MP3 player that can play files like this?

For more information, including a specific suggestion, see steve’s comment here: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/adding-index-track-marker-to-a-large-mp3-file/50147/1

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I will read through and experiment with the file I’m working on.

With regard to the MP3 player, I’m using either my iPhone or an Apple iPod Nano 7th Gen.

Thanks again.

You are welcome.

Now here is an app that will place chapter markers into your MP3 file: https://chaptersapp.com/faq/
I am sure there are others. Note that it only works with selected MP3 players.

If your Audacity project has labels to mark sections, perhaps, you can FIle > Export >Export Labels into a text file. Then you could use a spreadsheet to convert the markers into the proper format.

If the labels are to be at regular intervals as you indicated, perhaps your “chapter app” will do that for you.

I hope this helps.

That’s brilliant - thank you.

I initially split the file into 5 minute segments and then exported as multiple tracks.
This works for what I need, but I will explore the app you suggested although I’m unsure if the iPhone / iPod supports it.

Thanks again

I believe that app will support iPhone / iPod although I might, for now, withhold using ii as it costs £20 and I only have one track that I have a need for it just now.

Good to know there is a solution.
