how to remove/reduce unwanted background noise from recording of 2 person's conversation.

hi, I’m using windows 10 and audacity version 3.0.0. I apologize if this question allready been answered before somewhere in forum. i couldn’t find any satisfactory answer using search tool of the forum. maybe I’m using wrong keywords. anyway i want to remove/reduce background noise from a recording of 2 persons’ conversation in m4a audio file format. the recording was made by mobile phone and the background noise was a song running on loud speakers of neighbors. please help me out.

the recording was made by mobile phone and the background noise was a song running on loud speakers of neighbors.

Probably not. That’s one of the four guaranteed ways to kill a voice recording. We can’t split two different performances from each other in a mixed show.

Koz

so removing/reducing background noise is not possible at all? even with any other paid software or something?

Probably not.

In audio production / signal processing, “Noise” has a special meaning. A background “ssss”, or “shhh” is “noise”. A dog barking, a baby crying, a TV playing, a woman singing… are not “noise”, they are performers in your recording, they are “unwanted sounds”.

If the unwanted sounds are low level (very quiet compared to the main recording), then they are likely to only be noticeable during “silences” (when your main performers are not speaking). In this case you could use the Noise Gate effect to suppress sound when it drops below the level of your main performers voices. See: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/noise_gate.html

(If using the Noise Gate effect, ensure that you are using the latest Audacity 3.0.2 as there is a bug in the 3.0.0 version.)

thank you very much for replying. but the sound of unwanted background music/song i want to remove/reduce from my recorded conversation is very loud, so that the recorded conversation can be heard more clearly. so there’s no way to do that?

No there isn’t.
