How to remove high-pitched screaming from concert

Hey y’all

I have the plain Audacity, no added plugins except for a free MuseFX plugin.

I went to a concert recently, but there was a fan near me who was screaming (as is to be expected at a concert). However, she has VERY high-pitched screaming, and it honestly kind of hurts to hear. I’ve tried the low-pass filter, but the female performers’ voices are the only ones that seem to be affected by this, and their singing sounds warbled/underwater when I run the low-pass filter through. I’ve tried different settings with the low-pass filter, such as setting it to 4500hz, but the screaming persists. I’ve also tried silencing that section, but the screaming is somehow still as loud and noticeable as before I changed the volume. Is there any other way to tone down her high-pitched screaming without affecting how the singers sound?

If the screaming and singers are overlayed in time as well as in frequency, you’re pretty much out of luck. You may want to try editing in the frequency domain if you can locate the unwanted signal in the spectral editor.

I’ll try the spectral editor, but for now, I just overlaid the actual mp3 song over top of the screaming and lowered the volume on the screaming, and then did the low pass filter on a different setting. The screaming is still audible, but less so and way less ear piercing!
