How to record my voice (USB Mic) and the other person (listening via USB Headset) [windows]

Is there a way to use Audacity to record both my voice via USB Mic and the other side of a conversation (say on Zoom) where I am listening through a USB headset? The “record” options that I see only (not surprisingly) just allow the selection of one or the other.

Thanks
R.

Not easily. Audacity will only record from one “thing.” The microphone system is one thing and the speaker/headphone/internet system is another.

You can look into the possibility of asking Zoom to record both sides for you. I believe they will do that and even give you two different sound files if you ask nice.

If somebody had a gun and you had to make something work, ditch the headphones and make Zoom do the conversation in “Hands-Free” mode. You talk at the computer and the computer talks back into the room. Set your phone up in the middle to record the room.

I was able to get a clear and perfect recording, but I did it with a small sound mixer and two different computers.

This was an engineering test, so the production was terrible but Denise, who was four time zones away, sounds like she’s on the sofa behind me.

A process note here. Audacity can’t be used for surveillance, law enforcement, or conflict resolution. I’m just sayin’.

In that same vein, no, Audacity will not easily record Time Of Day. The surveillance people all want that immediately.
