How to record bass. Just bass

First of all, I’m new to this as my username say.
Second, my problem is kinda hard to explain.

Anyways, I want to record my bass with audacity, but I don’t know how to record ONLY bass.

I have real noob equipment. Amp, normal cable (idek know its name), aux cable, laptop and bass.

What I tried was:
Plugged bass to amp then plugged aux cable from amp to laptop microphone jack.

However, when I try to record, it picked up my voice. Meaning my aux cable is not working (its not broken tho). I thought it would only pick up audio from amp, but no.

I managed to make it work a couple days ago by toggling with some settings, but I completely forgot how I did it.

Could anyone help me how to make it only record from amp.

You can select the external mic input from the Device Toolbar.

Note that the mic input is not “correct” for a guitar/bass or a line-level signal and you may have issues with tone or your levels. The line-output or headphone output from your amp is about 100 times stronger than a microphone signal. The impedance on the mic input is way too low for a guitar/bass.

If you have a desktop/tower computer with a regular soundcard the blue input is line-level. Or, you can get an Audio Interface with switchable mic/instrument /line inputs. The Behringer UCG202 is a relatively inexpensive guitar USB interface.

Yeah I know its not the best way to record my bass, but I only have this way atm.

On the device toolbar, I have 3 options for audio host (MME, WIndows DirectSound, & Windows WASAPI).

Here are the recording device that are available in each one of the 3 audio hosts:
MME [Microsoft Sound Mapper -Input, Microphone (High Definition Aud) ← there are two of the Mic High Def–]

Windows DirectSound [Primary Sound Capture Driver, and 2 of the ‘Microphone (High Definition Aud)’

Windows WASAPI [Speakers (High Definition Audio Devices), and 2 of the ‘Microphone (High Definition Aud)’

I tried all of them, but still wouldnt let me record through my aux cable. It still picks up my voice :frowning:

I’m still not sure how I managed to let it record just the audio coming in from the aux cable.
