Hello everyone. Sorry if this is a trivial question. Unfortunately, I can’t find the right answer on internet.
I have a question regarding Audacity 3.6.4. How can I edit the position of the cursor? I would like to place the cursor in the exact position by entering numbers corresponding to minutes, seconds and milliseconds. The field at the bottom of the screen indicating the cursor position is uneditable. What is editable is the box that allows me to make a selection (I can enter the start and end of the selection). I can then use the Transport > Cursor to > Selection Start command, but it’s a bit of a workaround.
Any help will be appreciated. Kind regards.
The field at the bottom should be editable. Don’t know why yours isn’t.
You can place your cursor roughly and/or type in the start position. You can set the next field to be the length or end point of your selection.
These two fields that you have circled are indeed editable, as I mentioned. The single one to the left (pointing the cursor position) is not.
You don’t need to edit that one. It’s only an indicator. You edit the one I circled and that lets you place the cursor.
The single time control shows either the position of playback during playback, or the position which playback would start, if it were started. And as you’ve stated, it is not editable.
The pair of time controls shows the current time selection. If you want to use these to set the cursor position, then it’s easiest if these controls are set to show the start and length of the selection, rather than the start and end of the selection, which is the default setting. To change the settings, click the cog button just to the left of the bottom time control, and choose start and length of selection.
Then, when there is no time selection, the bottom control will show zero. You can then change the start of the selection, and the length of the selection will remain zero. So you can move the cursor without accidentally creating a time selection.
Thank you very much for your help. Regards
