How to install Audacity 3.4.1 using downloaded AppImage and installed libfuse2 on Ubuntu 22.04?

How do I install Audacity 3.4.1 with downloaded AppImage and installed libfuse2?

Hi,
From the following website:
https://www.audacityteam.org/download/linux/
I have downloaded the following AppImage file
audacity-linux-3.4.1-x64.AppImage
According to the instructions on the linked website,
I installed libfuse2 as follows:

sudo add-apt-repository universe
sudo apt install libfuse2

However, I could not find any instructions for the next step.
Could someone help me?

I found this:

Dear Audacity Team.
It would be more helpful to describe the entire installation process.

Did you figure this out? I have the same issue. I can run the AppImage but since it isn’t properly installed I can’t make it the default when I double-click an audio file.

go to this link, fellas.
once you make the AppImage an executable, you just double-click the file and it runs.

Yes, we both got that far. There are advantages to actually installing it though. For instance, you can do “Add to Favorites”, and make it open by default when you double-click an audio file. I just found a solution for that: Ubuntu PPA for Installing Audacity 3.4.0 in Ubuntu 22.04 | 23.10 | UbuntuHandbook

I think you are saying that the inconvenience is caused by the lack of file associations that come with using an AppImage. Is that right? I’ve just got used to always starting Audacity first and opening the project from within the program.

I’ve just tried this and it worked for me:
Locate any of your Audacity project files and right-click on it. Choose ‘Properties’ > ‘Open With’ and then click on the ‘+Add button’. Audacity WON’T be listed so you have to click on ‘Use a Custom Command’. Click ‘Browse’ and navigate to where you have stored your AppImage file for Audacity. Select the AppImage file and click ‘Open’. Click ‘Add’ on the next dialogue and then ‘Close’. Now, when you double-click an aup3 file, it will open in Audacity. I can’t believe I haven’t tried that before.
There is one caveat - if you upgrade to a later AppImage file, you will have to do this again UNLESS you give it a generic name without a version number in it.

Thanks - I’ll give that a try.
