How to export song with original metadata after bulk editing?

Hi ,

When I export multiple files after editing them in bulk the artist and album name of the first song is applied to every other song .

Is there any way I can preserve the original artist and album name the metadata ?

Also is it possible to preserve the original thumbnail ? Exporting the files after editing deletes them. The worst offender is the lack of thumbnail pic after editing , it removes a lot from the original songs.

No, and no.

Audacity is very week in support for tags. I use MP3tag to add covers and update tags. It is free.

I think MP3TAG can batch-copy from the old files into the new.

And note that MP3TAG works on all of the popular file formats, not just MP3.

I tried mp3tag but it wouldn’t paste if there were missing elements like year/genre in metadata . Thanks for the reply !

Hmmmm… MP3TAG has a forum

“Worst case” you can use MP3TAG manually. You can select a folder-full of files (an album) and enter the common information once (including album artwork). Then individually edit the song titles and track numbers and any other unique information.

MP3TAG can also (possibly) find the information online but I’ve never tried that feature. (Click Tag Sources on the menu.)

If your local media file is open by a browser (and possibly a viewer program) it will be in a sort of locked state and MP3tag will be unable to modify it until the other program is closed. I discovered this myself after angrily yelling at the MP3tag program for not working and then figuring out why.
