How the heck do I increase recording level? Nothing works

I’m recording system audio (streaming an online radio station) on my Win 11 PC.
Easy, I just do this >

  1. Audio Setup > Host > WASAPI
  2. Audio Setup > Recording Device > {select whateva device is playing the audio on pc}

But why are the levels so low? (see screenshot)

Increasing the ‘recording level’ slider (see pink arrow) DOES NOTHING!!! I’ve maxed it out and the levels don’t change at all.
Please help!

Maybe you already have help. Do you use Skype, Zoom, Google Meat, or Multi-Player Games? These applications take over your sound services. Sometimes even if you shut them down, they can leave some of their adjustments running in the background.

Try a Clean Shutdown.

That’s where you tell the machine to shut down and not leave anything running. It takes a bit longer, but it can give you a more stable machine.

Post back if it works, or you have trouble.

thanks for speedy reply but I don’t use any of those websites / apps.
I have a clean Win 11 and Audacity just cannot adjust recording audio levels.
I am looking for another program that can actually adjust recording levels.
I think Adobe Audition can do it.

Hi Koz, me again. I just wanted to say you were on the right track with your answer above.

I have a USB audio device plugged into my PC and I listen through headphones. I have nothing plugged into the audio jacks on my PC. I did a google and this means there is no onboard audio to control.

So I plugged some cheap Dell speakers in & its working as expected. Thanks Koz.
