How do you soften piercing sounds?

Hello,

I’ve managed to remove background noise to a couple of bird-song recordings I found, but some of the calls are pretty ear-piercing.

Is there a way to soften the more piercing frequencies without removing the sound itself?

Try using the [u]Envelope Tool[/u] to bring down the volume where it’s too piercing. The trick is to “fade” the volume down, and then back up again so there are no sudden volume changes.

You can also try some dynamic compression Effect → Compressor or the Leveler effect.
