How do we disable cloud upload and AI features in Audacity

Hi Team,

Can you please confirm how to disable these features in Audacity?

  1. Cloud upload to audio.com?

  2. Generative AI / LLM features, including the optional OpenVINO AI Plugins?

You can hide the “share audio toolbar” via toolbars menu … View Menu: Toolbars - Audacity Manual

(But the cognoscenti could easily un-hide it : not properly disabled).

I think that if you uninstall the version of Audacity you have and reinstall the “non Muse hub” version at least the cloud stuff will not be in there. It is more difficult to find the non-Muse version to install, as that is the first one offered on the install page.

There is “mod-cloud-audiocom” in preferences …

But again the cognoscenti can re-enable it.

  • AI / LLM features are not enabled by default. Additional software is required if you want those features, so you literally do nothing and they are disabled.

  • I don’t think uploading to the cloud can be disabled, but it is entirely optional. If you don’t want to upload to the cloud then no-one is making you, so just don’t upload to the cloud. In fact, if you don’t create an audio.com account then you won’t be able to upload to the cloud.

  • There’s also an option in preferences to disable the “upload to cloud” prompt: Cloud Preferences - Audacity Manual

  • You can also disable the check for updates: Application Preferences - Audacity Manual

  • Finally, if Audacity ever crashes, you may see an option to report the error. This is optional and you can simply dismiss the prompt if / when it occurs.

Thanks for the response. I’m not the end user of the application. We’re evaluating this from an enterprise deployment perspective and would like to disable these options for users before deploying this version.

Could use an old version of Audacity which pre-dates features like upload to “audio [dot] com”, and is incompatible with OpenVino … Old Audacity versions download e.g. 2.4.2
