Hi, I have audacity 2.0.3 ( obtained the .exe installer) installed on a windows XP machine and I have noticed that a newer version 2.0.5 is available for download. Do I need to uninstall the old version bf installing the new version? Or, just download the new version and install on top of old version? Thanks!
Assuming that you installed the previous version with default options you can just download the recommended "Audacity 2.0.5 installer "from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows then run the installer with the default options (no need to uninstall the previous version).
If you are unsure, there is no harm in uninstalling the 2.0.3 version first.
Thanks Steve. Why does the forum software keep telling me now “You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below.” I did do this initially but I entered the correct login credentials the second time I tried to login correcty and I still had to input another CAPTCHA?
No idea. Perhaps your Caps Lock button was down.
If you are the only person that uses that computer and you use Firefox web browser, you can allow Firefox to remember your password (after a successful log-in) so that your password gets entered automatically.
No, caps lock is off. I am entering the right credentials now and I have to always do the CAPTCA thing before I can login. It is not a big deal but is somewhat annoying to have to do this each time I login in now. If I logout now and the log back in with the correct user ID and password (1st time), I should not have to enter a CAPTCHA each time, correct? Maybe this is a reset thing on your end that the moderators or admins need to address…IDK!
Yes you should, but that’s working fine here (with the same user credentials as yours). If it’s a problem with log-in session cookies, clearing your web browser cache may fix it.
How did the update go?
(The Audacity version number is shown in “Help > About Audacity” if you need to check which version is running).
Thanks Steve for all your help. The install went ok. I installed on top like what you said. Also, I am able to login in now without having to do the CAPTCHA each time. Yay! Thanks a lot and have a great day.
