I am trying to record a clip from an online source that is in stereo, but my audacity track is only in mono.
I open a new stereo track in Audacity, but when I hit record it opens a new mono track and records in it.
Am I doing something wrong?

How are you getting the show into Audacity? That’s not easy. You need an app or driver to “turn the playback sound around” and record it. That app may be set wrong.
How do you know the show is in stereo? Can you listen on headphones and hear the sound go back and forth?

When I’m recording a portion of it as it’s playing I just hit the record button or type “R”. The audio settings are Host: WASAPI and Recording Device: (loopback).

I have downloaded it directly before. It is in m4a format. It has two channels and I can see some differences between the channels in Audacity.
I should also note that before coming to the forums I had done an online search for a “how to”.
One of the recommendations was to enable “stereo mix” & there was a link on how to do so in Windows 10/11. I have Windows 11 & it was not showing even in the hidden options. The page said that in such cases one would need to download the drivers for stereo mix from realtek & gave a link, but the realtek domain appears to be out of order now.
