How do I import new audio at the end?

Hello All:

Say I have two tracks with sound in the folowing fashion:

If I want to import a new audio file at about the end of the sound on the second track what do I do?

Currently when I import, the new sound appears on a track at the very beginning of both tracks. I then manually have to move it.

Using Audacity 1.2.6 on XP platform.

Thanks,

I think if you Open rather than Import, you’ll get a new track. Select All copy and paste wherever you want it.

You did put the cursor at the end of the existing track before you Imported, right?

Yes, that’s what you do.

Unfortunately there is still no way to import to any other position than the beginning, but there are a couple of features that make life easier:

If you use Audacity 1.3.x there is a handy new feature that highlights the edge of the audio clip when it lines up exactly with the edge of another clip. This helps in getting the clips lined up correctly.

I think this method works in both Audacity 1.2 and 1.3;

  1. Import track (track is automatically selected on import - if not, click below the track name to select it, or double click on the track)
  2. Press Ctrl+X to cut the imported audio
  3. Press the “End” key to move to the end of the project
  4. Press Ctrl+V to paste the audio back into the track.

Thanks for all the responses.

I could not get into the forums for a while, so I just picked up the suggestions. I will start using them right away.
