How do I get a recording to audacity from a Sony minidisk?

I have a Sony minidisc Recorder MZ-R900.

There are a few recordings that need to be saved on my computer. I can’t bring them into Audasity. Through the earphones, the MZ-R900 plays sounds so the device is okay. Its instructions for use have not tried both ways to transfer sound without success.

Does Audacity’s settings have to take into account that audio is included in the program, or does a certain cable be needed for transmission, etc.?

macOS Catalina 10.16.7, Audacity 3.1.3

How are you connecting the minidisk to your computer? The manual says the minidisk uses the headphone jack as a line output. You will need a USB audio adapter (such as the Behringer UCA-202) to connect the line output of the minidisk to the USB input of your Mac as well as a cable to connect the minidisk to the UCA-202 (or whatever USB audio adapter you purchase).

I don’t understand this:

What is the “both ways”? What do you mean “audio is included in the program”?

Thanks for the answer. Following your instructions, I would get Sony connected to the imac. I got the recordings transferred to my old laptop yesterday and Audacity 2.4.2 worked fine. I got saved important interviews.
