How do I *actually* download older versions of audacity?

Sorry to be back in here so soon, but I’m trying to safely download version 2.4.2. The thing is though is that I don’t want the open source code that github provides, I just want a straightforward download, but I can’t seem to find a reliable option for that. All previous versions were uploaded directly onto fosshub, but the download links don’t work anymore??? They just redirect you to audacitys home page :(! My best next idea is to download it off of the internet archive, but I just want to see what someone else thinks first. I cannot emphasize enough that I do not want to build an entire software, even if its from the most “official” source. I just want a simple .exe is all

Ah, you just don’t look at Audacity’s website - you have your own “link archive” and complain when it is not working?

Go to Audacity’s website.
At the top, there is a link labelled “Downloads”.
If you click there, you come to the downloads page.
On the right side, you can see the title “Older versions of Audacity”. Click the link below this.
This leads you to a page where every single version is listed.
Find the desiredversion (you’ll have to click “Next” several times)
After you’ve found your desired version, click on “Assets” to show the downloads which are available.

Easy enough?

And why is your question in the “Special Interest Groups” caption?

I’m sorry?

With the way the post is written, I thought it was clear that I’ve already done what you’ve suggested and simply didn’t prefer that option. I figured the special interest group would be a more proper category as this isn’t related to any bugs or artistic medium. I am very new to all of this, and I know my questions are definitely amateurish and may be annoying to someone more experienced, but this tone is completely unnecessary. I don’t understand why you’re being so rude over a piece of software.

Using your own instructions, I challenge you to find version 2.4.2. I found only source code.

Are you dead set on version 2.4.2? I say this because version 3.3.3 was one I found to be pretty stable/reliable and you can download an installer for that here: Audacity 3.3.3 installers. According to my search it seems to only go back as far as 3.0.0 for a ‘proper’ installer.

@evilmrb Is it Audacity 2.4.2 for Windows that you’re after?

Hi Steve,
No, I was just trying to help the OP by pointing out that the versions before 3.0 don’t seem to be readily available any more. I have had a good experience with the latest version on Windows and Linux Mint so I will stick with it.

OK, thanks.
Hopefully there will soon be a safe download location for old versions (someone is working on it).
In the meantime:

@Bayonett If you still need Audacity 2.4.2 for Windows, send me a PM (private message).
