How can I trim my clips to no longer have hidden audio in Audacity 4?

I am editing a podcast where I am taking clips from the full movie audio track to intersperse throughout. Currently, every clip I create is copying the entire 2-hour audio track (due to non-destructive editing), which uses more space than I can afford. In audacity 3 I would mix down my track with the clips to mono, but that appears to no longer exist in audacity 4. I feel like cementing the clip that I want would be a great feature and is really something I need to be able to do, as currently this workflow seems borderline impossible.

In Audacity 3 there is a preference for how to handle pasting audio clips from another project. It is under Tracks > Track Behaviours > Pasted Audio. You don’t have to mix down your tracks to avoid the “smart clip” behaviour.

There is no equivalent preference in Audacity 4.

I recommend going back to Audacity 3.7.9 for now.
