I see this was covered in a forum a few years ago and wondered if a solution had been found? I can play my tapes OK but recording without any background noise seems impossible. Any current ideas?

There are many possible reasons for squealing noise.
What equipment are you using?
What settings are you using the the Device Toolbar (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/device_toolbar.html)
How loud is the squealing, and when does it happen?
