Help with a Mac and USB Cassette Player

Hello is there anyone who can help me figure out what I am missing? I bought a brand new USB cassette pro player with USB and hooked it up to my Mac Via USB.

I used a tutorial from you tube and went through all the set up for my Mac running High Sierra 10.13 but I get no sound showing in recording or from the computer. I am using just a USB cable built in the deck to the USB of the computer. I have tried 2 different computers and messed with the input and output and nothing. Am I missing a component? Can you get audio from just USB? Thank You

What is the make and model of the cassette deck?

If you go to System Preferences > Sound > Input does the USB Audio CODEC show up there? If you select it as an input and play a cassette does the input level meter bounce?

The deck is a Pyle PT-659DU it’s brand new. I got it because it had USB.

The deck shows up as USB PnP Sound Device

When playing a cassette the meter bounce on the deck but not the software levels unless I am talking then it picks up every noise through Mic, which I don’t want.

I got the USB deck so I didn’t have to use the mic input.

I am stumped.

Did you check in System Preferences > Sound > Input to see if the Mac is seeing audio from the deck?

Click on “USB PnP Sound Device”, play a cassette, and see if the input level meter bounces.

Hello when I play a cassette yes the meter from sound input does show movement, however it does pick up all noises and voice, but the sound recorded beside my voice is just a super loud screeching noises that go in and out but no music.

OK, so we have verified that the Mac can see the input from the cassette deck.

Now on to Audacity. This advice is for Audacity 3.2.0 and later.

Click on the Audio Setup button, mouse down to Recording Device, and choose the USB PnP Sound Device.

Hello, I cannot download that version as it never gets past the verifying stage. But the version I have does let me select the USB PnP Sound Device and when this is done only the mic picks up my voice or noises from the house but nothing from the cassette player. Do I need some other piece or different software? Is this deck all I need? This is so frustrating. What am I missing? Thank You

I was reading some other posts and someone said to open the MIDI folder and select the USB pnp and I did and I got sound. So I messed around and set it up like you see here, however its recording in 1 channel mono which sound bad, now how to configure this so I can record in stereo? I tried changing a few things and then it stops working.

In the device recordings if i select usb pnp I only get mono and it works, but if I change it to built in mic then I get 2 channel stero but it stops working. I hope I can record in stereo.

In Audio MIDI Setup click the Output tab and you should be able to select stereo.

In Audacity Preferences can you not select “Channels: 2 (stereo)” under Recording?
