Did you save this project? If so the data will be in the _data folder that has the same name as the AUP file.

Did Audacity crash?

Look in Help > About Audacity. What are the three numbers for version number? If you are using Audacity 1.2 you should to upgrade to 2.0.5 from here Audacity ® | Download for Windows .

What version of Windows?

The AU files are in a folder, not a file.

Please answer the questions above, and attach the AUP file. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 .

If you don’t have an AUP file (you never saved the project) then I assume the line error is in the AUTOSAVE file and you are actually using a 1.3 or 2.0.x version of Audacity. In that case, please attach the AUTOSAVE file.

The AUTOSAVE file is at Documents and SettingsApplication DataAudacityAutoSave on Windows 2000 and XP or at UsersAppDataRoamingAudacityAutoSave on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

To find the AUTOSAVE file you will need to show hidden files and folders. Click this link to find out how to do that for your version of Windows: How to see hidden files in Windows .
