Hi all.
When recording something, generating a sound effect, or even just importing a file, Audacity just emits buzzing noises when I play it back. And I just tried it now and it says it is recording, but there is nothing there when I am done. Help!
By the way, Audacity is running version 3.3.3 and my mic works otherwise with the computer, such as in applications like Sound Recorder.
Thanks.
Wesley
So this seems to be a playback problem.
This seems to be a recording problem
I would focus on one issue at at time, starting with the playback issue.
Sometimes you may need to do Transport > Rescan Audio Devices after plugging a USB device.
If Audacity is not able to hear your microphone, you may need to give it microphone permission: Turn on app permissions for your microphone in Windows 10 - Microsoft Support
Hello.
Thank you for your helpful and rapid response.
After rescanning for microphones, I got no different results.
So I headed into my privacy settings and hunted up Audacity Microphone Permissions. It was allowed to use the mic and it appeared as if it had been actually using it a few minutes ago when I did a test recording.
By the way, just for your information, I am currently running Windows 11 Home 22H2 on an HP Pavilion laptop.
I also generated a simple tone and I heard the buzzing as usual, but when I exported the file and played it with a music player program, it was a tone again. …

So you might try a different Playback Device (under Audio Setup).
Already did, with no results. By the way, sorry for the delayed reply
