HDAudio option not found, ALSA records noise when hot-jacked

HW = HP Pavilion g6

OS = UbuntuMate 22.04
Audacity = 3.1.0 installed using distribution software center Ubuntu(deb), snapcraft.io latest/edge 3.1.3

Perferences>Devices> Interface Host = ALSA
Using PortAudio V19.7.0-devel, revision unknown

So I jacked output to input and recorded a test tone of 1K sine and I get pops and snaps noise.

There are no choices to change anything like when I had Ubuntu 16.04 and a much older version of Audacity. On that system Default and Pulse would get the snaps and pops noise but when I put it in HDAudio = no noise.

So Audacity won’t run at all without ALSA and there is no choice for me to run HDAudio

ALSA is default.
How do I get rid of the snaps ans pops noise? How do I get the HDAudio option for choice in recording?

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Try using the AppImage version: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/ (the Audacity team do not make the Snapd version)

Yes!, Thank you very much. your suggestion worked. :slight_smile::):):):slight_smile:
