Having trouble recording audio using Cyber DVD and Audacity

Havee had audacity for years and never had a problem but recently got a dvd player and using CYBER DVD Power 24 to record audio from Blu Rays. Installed FFmpg but everytime I try to record I get a 97 error code. If I change settings and it starts to record I can’t move the recording level up and it records nothing.

Using a 64 bit Windows 11 with an archgon Premium Aluminum External USB 3.0 UHD 4K Blu-Ray Writer Super Drive with Audacity 3.3.3 and realtech speakers stereo

You should be able to record whatever you are hearing out of your soundcard, but I believe you can only record stereo, not multi-channel. So Windows and Audacity need to be set to stereo and you may have to select stereo from the Blu-Ray menu (if it has that option) maybe you’ll have to set Power DVD to stereo also.

Recording Desktop Audio

You don’t need to FFmpeg for this.

You can get DVD & Blu-Ray ripping software but it’s illegal because it cracks the copy protection, so I’m not going to give you a link. There is a Chinese company (.cn domain) that sells all kinds of this stuff, starting at around $100 USD. I haven’t bought it but I’ve tried the free trial. They have software that can make a decrypted copy that you can play on your computer, or you can open the audio with open with Audacity and FFmpeg. Or some if their tools can extract the audio, etc. You can find lots of other options if you search for “Blu-Ray ripper”. Just be aware that you may be giving your credit card number to a shady company that’s selling illegal software.

I can’t record anything even youtube or cd’s - I want to record a BlRay.

All my options are set for stereo

If you have more than one audio device, make sure you’ve selected the “loopback” device for wherever the sound is coming-out (usually your regular soundcard).

You may also have to start playback before clicking Record. WASAPI can record a silent stream but it can’t record “nothing”.

Error -9997: Invalid Sample Rate | Audacity Support

It seems like there is always a way to save YouTube videos other than recording off the sound card in real time. I would “never” encourage people to violate the terms of service (eye roll), but there are programs out there to do that.

YouTube is always trying to make it difficult for people to save videos to their computer, and developers are always finding new ways to accomplish it. In order to be streamed, the data has to be playable on your computer. I suppose we should all be aware that running some program downloaded off the internet has inherent dangers to consider though.

Once a video is downloaded to a local computer it can be converted into an audio format.

Read the post again.

He’s (or she) trying to record the audio from a Blu-Ray disc that is playing on his computer. He just mentioned that YouTube recording isn’t working either.

The -9997 error in Audacity 3.3.3 is a specific code indicating an Invalid Sample Rate or a mismatch between your audio hardware and your project settings. When recording from a Blu-ray via software like CyberLink PowerDVD 24, this usually happens because the Blu-ray’s high-definition audio (often 48kHz or 96kHz) is conflicting with Windows or Audacity’s default settings (usually 44.1kHz).
