trying to download audacity, downloads the installer without issue but then i try to use the installer to actually download audacity and it continues just telling me to retry download and that something went wrong

Assuming Windows and assuming you downloaded “without Muse Hub” the installer should be:
audacity-win-3.7.7-64bit (1).exe
or maybe
audacity-win-3.7.7-64bit.exe
