Gracias enormes.

You’ll need a USB audio interface with line-inputs. There are a couple of recommendations here in the Audacity Manual. Or, there are lots of high-end audio interfaces with switchable pro-microphone/line inputs.

For headphone-out or line-out, you need line-in (normally blue on a regular soundcard in a desktop/tower computer).

Most laptops only have microphone-in and headphone out. The microphone input can “work” but it’s “wrong” because line-level (and headphone) signals are about 100 times stronger than a microphone signal and you’ll get poor quality. (The microphone input is also usually mono, but your home recordings are probably mono anyway.)

Your laptop probably has a combination mic/headphone jack and you need a TRRS plug with an extra contact to make the microphone connection. But again, that’s NOT correct for a headphone output.
