Global change of rate to all tracks

I have 30+ audio tracks that have been recorded at 16kHz sample rate and I need to set them to 8kHz. I can see how do this on an individual track but is there a way to set this on all of them in one go?

Many thanks

Neil

The short answer is no, but if you can describe what you are doing and why you need to change the sample rate there may well be an alternative approach.

When people ask this they usually don’t want to change the length and speed of the files (which is what changing the rate on the track does).

If you want to change the sample rate but not the speed, you can File > Import Audio…, multiple-select the files, change the project rate bottom left to 8000 Hz, then File > Export Multiple. This will not automatically preserve all the metadata in the files, if they have metadata.

If you are wanting “64 kbps” mono WAV files for telephony purposes, then the Audacity tracks must be mono before you export and you will also need to export as WAV with U-Law or A-Law encoding (choose “Other Uncompressed files” then click “Options” after choosing Export Multiple).

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
The files are to be used in a voice annoucement system based around a particular dsp and are required to be in 16bit 8kHz for the encoding utility to encode the voice data using G726A for inclusion in the dsp. The generation of the dsp data (I am assuming) is proprietary to the dsp manufacturer.

You can use the method that Gale described:

File > Import Audio…, multiple-select the files, change the project rate bottom left to 8000 Hz, then File > Export Multiple.
(see here for help with “Export Multiple” Audacity Manual)
