I am a total newbie to Audacity and need help getting started. I have a MacBook Pro running MacOS Tahoe and want to record old vinyl albums onto an external HDD. I have an older audio technica turntable with a USB output. I have tried YouTube but they all seem to address recording of my own music rather than recording from vinyl records. Do you know of any applicable videos or documentation for this purpose? Thanks very much.
Hi Bob,
First off, do NOT record your albums direct to an external drive. You will have problems if you do. Record and edit on the internal hard drive. You can, of course, save them to the external drive for archiving but, if you work on them again, copy them back to the internal drive for editing etc.
The bit in the manual you need is this: Digitising LPs and tapes
This YouTube video might help: Copying vinyl to computer but there are others to be found.

Thanks, Mark. My first reply to you came back as undeliverable so I’m trying again.
I will not be editing the music, but will follow your suggestion anyway and record to my internal drive first. In the future, I may want to do some editing so this advice will come in handy. Thanks again.
