Generate a signal

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask my question.

I want to use Audacity to generate a signal and use it as an input to an amplifier.

How does it work?

Thanks

You should have started a “New Topic”, but…

I want to use Audacity to generate a signal

Generate → Tone.

Then you can simply play it or you can export-as a WAV file (or other audio file) and play it in Windows Media Player, etc.

…and use it as an input to an amplifier.

And of course, you’d connect your computer’s headphone-out to line-out to Line-in on the amplifier (or Tape-in or Aux-in , etc.).

Are we after entertainment or testing? Audacity is an audio production editor not a WAV editor. The distinction can cause problems with scientists and techies. If there is a choice between making something sound good and have it perfect, we usually go for sounding good.

You should remember that any sound that you make with the computer has to go through the computer to get out. I once struggled with a computer that had cathedral ambient special effects switched on by accident. Everything the computer did sounded like the fifteenth century.

For the record, I disagree. Audacity is officially described as a “multi-track audio editor and recorder”.
