Garageband not working, so can I use Audacity instead?

A Little background:

I m a podcaster and producer. I have been using Audacity for more years than I can count. I also like to create my own music for my shows. I am not great at it, and never put much money into it. I simply used Garageband and a Midi keyboard I bought. Well, recently Garageband quit working. I have tried everything to get it going again after Sonoma 14.4.1 and I have decided to give up and find a replacement. Even deleted it off my Mac.

My Question:

I am using Audacity 3.4.2 and know that it has been recently updated to to support more of the midi environment. Also, loops and pre generated beats. What I can’t seem to do is figure out how to do it. I am a fast learner, but haven’t found a good tutorial or guide to get me going on this new endeavor. I have installed Muse, but that seems to be more plugin related. I did play around with MuseScore some, but it is not quite what I am looking for.

Can anyone offer some advice or guide me to a good tutorial or walkthrough?

Thank You,

Ron

I haven’t tried the beta version but I don’t THINK it’s “full MIDI” with support MIDI capture/recording or virtual instruments.

You may need a full DAW and most are not free. REAPER is probably the “best deal” but it doesn’t come with any virtual instruments (I don’t own it.)
