Gain Problem On Windows Laptop

For a while, I had been recording voice auditions on my PC, but it was a bit of a hassle to connect the cords to my mic which is in my closet. I bought a laptop and have tried using my audio interface with it, but to be able to hear myself well, the gain has to be turned almost all the way up which I never had to do before. Is there a way to fix this problem on the laptop?

You can check the level controls on Audacity’s Recording and Playback Meter Toolbars. Also, check the Windows Sound Control Panel: [Windows-Key]-R, “mmsys.cpl”. Select the Recording Tab, your audio interface, Properties, and check Levels. While you are at it, make sure the Enhancements are turned OFF.
