FLAC Import does not get full file

Did you select FILE, OPEN or did you do FILE, IMPORT, AUDIO?

Both worked for me.

What version of Audacity do you have?

3.7.7 and Window 11 (see above  )

I run Debian Linux and tried Audacity 3.7.5, Ocenaudio, and Tenacity 1.3.4. They all had the same issue. VLC, MPV, and Haruna all open, show, and play the whole thing, but there is a glitch / skip at ~5m21s. Wave Corrector does the same thing, except it throws in a period silence after the glitch, before it starts playing again.

I used Kid3 to strip the tags and cover art from the file. It didn’t appear to make any difference.

I’m on Linux Mint and my experience closely mirrors yours. I think I might download the file again to see this glitch you refer to.

I’ve recently discovered this program and it looks very powerful but the interface is awful, I think. What’s your experience been with it? Have you used it much?

I have Kid3, Puddletag and EasyTag on my machine and they are quirky to say the least. MP3Tag on Windows is heaven in comparison. In fairness, I do know MP3Tag better so it could just be me.

Would you mind uploading the master WAV file to Google Drive too, please? Like @beat_truck I found 2 massive spikes around 5:21 which is where it all goes wrong loading into Audacity. I’d like to see the state of the WAV file, if possible.
As another experiment I took your original FLAC file and made another FLAC file directly from it using FFMPEG from a command line. When I opened my new FLAC file it showed the full 42-min capture with horrible spike at the point where the original one ‘cut off’. Surely, that can’t be a coincidence.
I also just spotted on DVDdoug’s screenshot there is a gap at the cut-off point, mine shows a distinct spike.

Here is a link to the master WAV file:

And, the AUP3 file used to create the FLAC file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BXpfYWWj7drhGoFDORZeL-Mmi6NEki3t/view?usp=sharing

Remember that I (probably) used MP3Tag to add the artwork and tags.

Thanks a lot!
The master WAV and the Audacity project file are flawless - no sign of the ‘anomaly’ at 5:21 in either. I exported the project file to FLAC and that was perfect too. It played beautifully and had the full 42 mins. I guess the ‘break’ crept in later in the chain of events.

Unfortunately, I haven’t use it very much. But, I agree that it’s UI is VERY unintuitive.

I installed it to see how it compares to ClickRepair, which works amazingly well on a lot of recordings, but can be destructive to others, no matter how you adjust it’s settings. In the little bit I have used it, it does seem to work fairly well while being not as destructive. ClickRepair definitely works better on badly damaged records, though.

As far as trying to use it to edit and render audio, I haven’t even attempted to use it for that, nor do I intend to. It would be maddening. :man_facepalming:

I’ve used Kid3 and Easytag. I might have used MP3Tag. I don’t remember. I’ve been on Linux full time for ~8 years now. I’m far from an expert when it comes to tagging media files. I’m lazy and normally don’t even bother creating them. I just name the files appropriately and toss the artwork in the folder with them.

@beat_truck
Thanks for your insights. Very interesting.
