I’m running Windows 10, 64 bit, and Audacity 2.3.2. I am able to download the Lame library but the program cannot find the avformat-55.dll file that it needs. I’ve tried the non compressed and compressed files. Nothing works.
LAME and FFmpeg are separate. LAME is for exporting to MP3 and it’s now built-into Audacity.
FFmpeg allows importing/exporting most other formats that Audacity does not directly support.
Download ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe. Run the EXE file to install FFmpeg and Audacity should find it.
thanks DVDdoug. I thought I had tried that particular download, but apparently didn’t. It worked. For my part, the online instructions were confusing and led me down several wrong paths. THank heavens there are helpful experts like you to help resolve these things for we, the digitally challenged.
FYI I have 3.7. I tried every variation described in the manual/support - auto/manual and every source for the FFmpeg files. Every time, I “successfully” pointed the Library at the dll and every time it still said library not found. In the end I tried an old version of FFmpeg and successfully linked to avformat-55.dll. At that point I stopped digging. Any comments?
