FFMPEG configuration options to be enabled for Audacity on Ubuntu

Hi there,

Since the available FFMPEG release on Ubuntu repos is too old (version 4.?), I am trying to compile it from source. So I would be grateful if the knowledgeable guys could share the options that need to be enabled in the FFMPEG ./configure step to make the package working in Audacity well. The only one I know of is --enable-shared. Anything else?

Thank you!

How old is your Ubuntu version? I’m using the repository version of FFmpeg successfully with Audacity on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.

İ’m using the latest Pop!_OS, which is a fork of Ubuntu per se. FFMPEG repo version installs well, not complaining. Just thinking about updating some programs on my system, including ffmpeg.

I would strongly recommend that you stick with the repository version of FFmpeg (and other libraries). The risk of breaking other audio apps is high if you replace the system version.
