I have used Audaciry for many years, and love it!
I am running Audacity 3.7.7 on a 2024 Mac Mini M4 with MacOS 26.5.
Audacity works well on this set up, except that on starting to record a new track, the cursor moves across but the screen does not paint the incoming audio until the first screen is filled - the track remains plain dark grey. Once the cursor reaches the right hand side the screen begins to scroll, and from that point onward the audio displays correctly. This does not prevent use of the app, but it is very disconcerting - and when I first experienced it it took me some time to establish that the audio was being recorded, but not displayed.
So far I did not see this, but:
- I am still using Audacity 3.6.4
- on macOS Sonoma (14.8.7) and Sequoia (15.7.7)
- and Audacity 3.5.1 on macOS 10.13.6
I don’t own a computer where macOS 26 or later can be installed.
It may be a problem with the graphics environment of your specific Mac configuration. Can you try this Audacity version on another computer with macOS 26.5? Or a previous Audacity version on your computer?

Many thanks for your response. I think I have identified the source of the problem - and as usual it is down to finger trouble! I eventually found that I had a large latency value set, and by chance this seemed to equate to one screens worth of recording, so that when the latency expired the screen began to appear. I have now reverted to a more normal latency setting and all is working normally. My apologies for raising a report when it was all my fault!
Thanks again,
Steve

Don’t worry - but it is good to hear that it’s working now as expected.
