Exported track is silent

The playback in audacity is fine but after exporting the file to mp3 or wav, it has no sound. I’ve checked the audio device settings and it’s fine. Everything else I play on my pc has sound just fine. It has never happened before and I haven’t changed any settings on Audacity and Windows. Not sure what to do. I’ve restarted the program and my pc and still nothing works. I’ve tried playing the recording on my phone and it’s also silent.

What happens if you re-open it in Audacity? Does it show a waveform, and does it play in Audacity, or do you get a flat line?

Are you doing any stereo-to-mono conversion?

Yes, it shows in a waveform and it plays fine in audacity. It’s in stereo. No conversion.

Well, that’s just weird… On the computer, Audacity uses the same drivers and hardware as other applications.

On a mono cell phone speaker if the left & right channels are identical but out-of-phase, they will cancel to silence. But you’d hear sound with stereo headphones or in-ears where left & right stay separate.

I realised that I’ve been using one of the plug-ins that has the cassette tape sound effects, and for whatever reason only some of the effects caused the track to be silent after being exported. Kinda sucks tbh, because some of them are really cool and now I can’t use them and still don’t know why.
