Exported MP3 files are greyed out in my Audacity folder. Help!

I’ve been recording long form audio and have been exporting the MP3s to a folder in Audacity, and then sharing them via email with no issues. Now, all of the MP3s seem to be greyed out, and I can’t click to listen or share. Any ideas??!

What do you mean by “a folder in Audacity”?

Hi Bill. Thanks for the quick response!

I may be demonstrating my lack of technical knowledge here. When saving/exporting, I’ve been choosing save to my computer. It hasn’t been a problem, but yesterday I noticed I couldn’t retrieve any of the MP3s, including those that I was able to in the past. When I choose "FILE>OPEN I see the folder and the MP3 file I want, but it’s greyed out and won’t let me select it. Is it more likely a MacBook issue?

OK, so you are doing “File > Open” in Audacity and trying to choose an MP3 file.

At the bottom left of the “Select one or more files” dialog, click the “Show Options” button.

Change the “File Type” drop-down to “All supported files”.

You should now be able to select an MP3 file.

I like to add for @Jonacosta that Audacity is basically a sound editor and although it can also play your mp3 files, it is not a music player. It is probably better to use Music.app (from Apple) or another music player.

If you open your mp3 files in Audacity, they get converted into something which only Audacity understands and you can then edit them / export them to mp3 or any other format, etc.

Bill—you’re a lifesaver. My BP has been returned to a healthy state lol. Thanks!

Gotcha! I was mainly worried because I couldn’t even select to share but thanks for the heads up. This forum is so helpful!
