here’s a weird bug.
I am on a mac mini with 2 monitors. Audacity is running on one monitor. I click File->Export Audio and the audio export window pops up. Then, for my convenience, I drag the export window to the other monitor and the export window disappears. I haven’t found a way to get it back and Audacity is locked. I can’t quit audacity or do anything with it. I have to force quit. Thank goodness audacity recovers to the last snapshot.
Of course, this is not a high priority bug. I just need to remember not to do that. but i thought I would mention it.
I’m running audacity 3.7.8 running Tahoe 26.6.1
Note: the export audio window disappears when I release the mouse. The sequence is File->Export Audio
then click and hold the top bar of the export audio window, drag it to the other monitor and release. and poof, it’s gone.
You left some of the good stuff out. If you don’t run Audacity, are the two monitors the left and right sides of the desktop? If you run your mouse back and forth, can you push a file or folder easily between the two screens?

The two monitors are independent, though one is declared "main display. They both have identical backgrounds, but an icon or window is on one or the other, never both.
Maybe one way to look at it is that the two monitors behave more like two independent monitors vs one large desktop spread over 2 monitors.
Windows can be slid from one to the other, but no window can overlap between the two monitors. If you don’t drag the window all the way to the new monitor, then only part of it will display on the new monitor.
That said, I’ve never had a window or icon disappear when sliding it from one monitor to the other.
Audacity’s main window can easily be slid from one to the other, it’s just the Export Audio window that disappears.

Can you export work from the Main Display?
Traditionally, Audacity has not done well on “Complex Computers.” I bet Export isn’t the only tool that fails Cross-Monitor.
The short answer is I think this is normal. Other may post.
I asked about left and right views of one desktop because I bet a lot of chocolate that would work.

I’m not sure what you mean by “export work from the main display”. If you are asking if the problem occurs if Audacity is on the Main monitor as well as the other monitor, the answer is yes.
I’ve been playing around with it and may have come up with some useful observations. I need to verify them and figure out how I’m going to describe them, but I’ve got some other things i need to do tonight so stay tuned, I’ll post again tomorrow. It’s actually kind of a fun puzzle. thanks for the good questions.

When this behavior occurs not every menu of Audacity is frozen. Only the menus that would be frozen when the Export Audio window is open are frozen. For example, most of the Window menu is functional and, as luck would have it, recentering audacity will cause the Export Audio window to become visible again. (Window->Center).

I tried to figure out how to write up the behavior in an understandable way and failed. So I created a youtube for anyone who is interested. It’s less than 1 minute and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
3)I think this is very low priority, but if I were a developer I would want to know about it and if it’s easy I would want to fix it.

My first post in this thread includes the OS and Audacity versions. It also includes the idea of just avoiding moving the window to the second display. My last post says that Audacity is not completely unresponsive and suggests Window->Center as a work around. You are correct that I did not mention that this behavior is the same no matter which display I start from. I agree that this behavior relates to the window position or multi-monitor handling and not the export process, but WTHDIK, only the developers will really know.
If there is somewhere else that I should report this, please let me know. I’ve just assumed that the developers monitor this site, but maybe there’s a better way to report a bug.

You are right. Export is not the only tool with this problem. E.g. the Fourier analysis window does the same thing.
