Export to CCITT A-Law

Hi,

I have downloaded Audactity to try and use digitally recorded voice files on a corporate telephone IVR system. I have received the following details regarding the format of file needed, but cannot get any of the exports to work. The details provided:

File format: WAV File (G.711)
Bit rate: 64kbps
Audio sample size: 8 bit
Channels: 1 (mono)
Audio sample rate: 8 kHz
Audio format: CCITT A-Law

Beind new to Audacity I’d really appreciate any help you can provide in what I need to do to get voice files in this format (and whether any of these settings need to be used when recording a message or if they can all be set during the export / conversion process).

Many thanks in advance, Oz

You will need to ensure that your track is mono before exporting (if stereo use “Tracks > Stereo Track to Mono”)
You need to set the Project Rate to 8000 (8 kHz) before exporting (bottom left corner of the main window)
Then Export with the “Other uncompressed files” option and select A-Law (see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/manual/man/file_export_dialog.html )
