Export options greyed out

When I select File > most of the options are greyed out. Cannot export at all.
I would like to expert to mp3, at the slowed-down pace I selected.

Windows 10. Audacity 2.1.0.

I am just a beginner–not doing anything complex.

I saw a couple of similar questions, but no answers.

Is that a typo? The current version is 3.1.0 (https://www.audacityteam.org/download/)

Which options are greyed out and which are available?

Only Import is available, and ITS options are greyed out as well.

What is / are “ITS”?

This could happen, for example, if you have no audio to export. If you were to Generate > Tone, for example, the options should work.

I have no idea why all of your import options would be grayed out.

I’m using 3.1.0 now.

File>Export is OK now. All options available.

(When I said ITS, I was emphasizing the word its. I was saying that the File>Import options are greyed out as well.)

I don’t know whether the file that I have open now fixed the problem, or updating to 3.1.0 fixed it, but I’m all set, thanks.
