Export custom wav file headers

Hi there,

I am currently using Audacity 2.1.2.

I have wave files from our sound level meter that have special RIFF headers included that provide calibration information etc about the file. When I use Audacity to edit the wav file (just trim it) and export it back to a wav file the export process removes the special RIFF headers. How can I export to a wav file but retail the complete same set of headers as the source wav file?

Many thanks!

Mark

That’s a very old version. The current version is 2.4.2 Audacity ® | Download for Windows

Audacity does not support custom headers. When exporting, Audacity will create a file that has standard headers that conform to the format standard specification.

Oh! So there is no way of editing a custom file, with conforming RIFF headers (just a couple of extras, which the format permits), and then exporting the data with just the updated standard WAV/RIFF format headers that represent the saved data? Will this be a feature in future releases?

Many thanks!

This page in the manual describes the Metadata support that is available in Audacity: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/metadata_editor.html
