Error opening sound device

I’m brand new to Audacity and I’m editing my first podcast.
I spent several hours cleaning up the file last night then Audacity froze up.

It gives me this error message:

Error opening sound device
Try changing the audio host, playback device and the project sample rate.

How can I get it to work again?

How long is the show?

Did you connect or disconnect anything just before it failed?

Did you take or make a Skype call right about then?

This is the manual listing for your error.

I don’t think this is it, but I can see one mismatch. You have the Mac microphone set to record mono and yet you have a stereo (two blue waves) show.

It’s good practice to export all your original sound and performances as WAV 16-bit, 44100 sound files before you start editing and edit a copy. Saving an Audacity Project is not recommended for this.

If you’re cutting your original performance and Audacity goes into the mud, it might take the original recording with it.
