Error opening recording device error code -9999 unanticipated host error

windows 10
Audacity 2.3.2

OK so I’ve just recently downloaded Audacity and am trying it for the first time.I want to record a cassette tape by feeding the headphone jack into my input jack on the pc. I’ve got sound coming out of the computer, but when I try to monitor it from audacity or hit anything to do with recording I get “Error opening recording device error code -9999 unanticipated host error”. Just for the heck of it I tried recording with a mic and I get the same thing. As far as I can tell, the settings on my pc and Audacity such as quality 44100 hz and line in realtec high definition audio match. Any suggestions?

Ensure that Audacity has permission to use the microphone. See: https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=100117

I fiddled with that last night too. Although what I really want is to allow access to the input jack I tried it with the mic and enabled access to apps but interestingly Audacity isn’t listed in those apps. I also made an exception in my virus software to exclude Audacity from shields and scans using this path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity” copied and pasted from the audacity.exe properties window.

4)Turn on the Allow apps to access your microphone toggle switch.

That’s the setting that you need.

Hmm, looks like it’s not going to work then. Bummer.
