I need to convert an MP4 file to a WAV file, but when I try to open the file in Audacity, the software shows me an error message: “Audacity cannot open this type of file without the optional FFmpeg library.” How can I solve this issue?
If you are running the current 64-bit version of Audacity, download and RUN FFmpeg_5.0.0_for_Audacity_on_Windows_x86_64.exe. That should install FFmpeg and you should be good-to-go!
Or if you just want to convert files without editing you can try Kabuu Audio Converter. Once you’ve set-up your desired output format and output location it’s just drag. drop, and click, and you can convert multiple files at once.
…But if you use Audacity it’s still a good idea to “complete” the installation with FFmpeg.
