Error Code -9999 when recording

Hello all,
I can’t configure Audacity with my mixer. I get a -9999 Error opening recording device message every time I select the Behringer line input for recording.
The installation includes

A mixer to which my electric guitar is plugged, the headphones
Lenovo Thinkpad 2011 laptop running Win10 to which my mixer is plugged into the USB port
I’m new to all this, so I haven’t embarked on any risky modifications
Currently what works is for example Host: MME, Reading: HP earphones REALTEK, Recording: Realtek microphone array
No errors but the sound is awful: everything seems to be recorded by the PC microphone if it picks up the sound of the headphones on the table

Thanks for your help
Laurent

When I got these errors, I had to turn off things in (1) Window’s settings, (2) Window’s environment audio settings, (3) manufacturer’s (HP here) environment audio settings (HP uses O&B surround), (4) Realtek’s settings. Settings in multiple places!

Anyway, while I had 2 channel input, it came to Audacity as 4 channel surround. Audacity failed to open it. When I got the input back to 2 channels, it still had weird analogue effect on. I think I succeeded to remove it too.

Took 4 months to figure out this all. Curse them!
