error code 9996 about device not able to record. I’m using the same computer and device I have always used and it will not record properly. I have re installed Audacity, re booted computer.
Yes man! This just happened to me too! It was working just fine earlier.

Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.
Also cCheck your Windows Permissions/Privacy Settings to make sure Audacity is allowed to use the device.

Sometimes Windows Update or another application will mess-up the Windows settings.
